Legal & Ethical Checklist

Evaluation

Overall I feel that this was a good experience to learn new things on both blender and unity, from this I manged to learn how to transfer objects created on blender to unity, to further create my 3D environment. If there was room for improvements, It would defiantly be creating a much larger 3D environment with lots more detail, but due to me wanting to create I street for my environment, I decided I should just create the street. I also feel that because I wanted to create individual houses, each with different interiors, this would be the goal for next time as all I did was copy and paste the same house I created on blender with different colours.

3D Environment Presentation

Above are a series of images taken of my finished 3D environment, it represents that of a Victorian street as you can see down below..

I started by making a road and pathway on Unity using the cube objects and some colours and textures, then using my assets I created on blender, I transferred them over to Unity to begin putting my environment together, leaving it with the images you see above.

Design Pack

Above is the map and layout of the 3D environment that I will build set in three different angles.

Above is the production of my houses that I will include in the environment.

Above is my house fully complete

Below is a lamppost with light I created using area light tool and a low transparent setting.

The creation of a factory

Above is the texture I used for the road, creating this on Photoshop, this is to represent the stone rocky roads that Victorian Britain had.

Legal & Ethical Considerations for Games Developers

Copyright

Copyright is a right given to the originator of almost any product or thing for a certain amount of years, meaning that no one else can legally copy there product and make a profit out of it. This can lead the original owner of the product to prosecute the person who copied there work, which could lead to the copycat losing a certain sum of money or having a prison sentence. Copyright laws have been in the UK for around 70 years meaning that the country have been given access to films and games from other countries such as the USA for that amount of time. The image above also has a link underneath to give credit to the owner as part of copyright.

Advantages

This means that by creating something and wanting to make a profit out of it, copyrighting it would mean only you could legally make a profit from the product that you created. Furthermore if registration of copyright is made within 3 months of publication of the specific work at any time prior to an infringement of the work, the copyright owner is entitled to seek statutory damages and attorney's fees in federal court.

Disadvantages

the disadvantages of copyright is that it can be on limited time that a certain product can be copyrighted by the original owner, meaning that anytime prior to that, the product could possibly be duplicated without punishment.

Ethical

Ethical constraints can show the rights and the wrongs of laws. For example, in the gaming industry people claim that games are the main source for violence because of there bloody nature, so that violent games shouldn't be aloud, whereas games like this, makes large sums of profit for the industry making it bigger then the film industry, making it ethical for business.

Advantages

if a business is ethical towards its customers and workers for example; meaning it would need to apply principles of honesty and fairness to relationships between the two. This would likely be one of the main points in making the business a successful one.

Disadvantages

Ethics also have its disadvantages, for example, using this in a company, would also likely reduce its freedom to maximize its overall profit, by  moving a manufacturing facility to a developing country to reduce costs.

Selection of Theme and Collation of Resources

Urban Street (Victorian)

My choice will be the urban street as creating the buildings will be something I will enjoy doing, Furthermore unlike the other choices, which will often involve copy and paste techniques, I feel the Victorian street will require each building and asset to be individually unique.

Below are some images and artwork that I chose and created for the choice..

Above are a bunch of images that me and a few others researched and printed out that show the streets of Victorian London, each image shows objects which made the urban streets stand out which is why I'll attempt to put each one into my environment.

Above are a few A6 sketches I did which show off the same street at a different angle, I plan on doing my environment similar to this street.

Above is a mini-model I created using various materials that involves two houses from the Victorian era, using these images will aid me in creating a full street of houses and lampposts.
